How little we know

Water softeners help keep your water clean and help you fight the scum and scale that is usually associated with hard water. Most American cities live with extremely hard water, which effects your health and lifestyle. Having hard water can make your clothes lifespan drop significantly, because of the content of hard water, minerals will break down your clothing much quicker. Even basic things like taking a shower is harder, the soaps themselves have a harder time cleaning your body. Have you had a problem where after you run the dishwasher you still have dirty dishes, or even clogging your appliances?

Water softeners depend on salt to work properly and most of the major water softeners available on the market today depend on them. As of now there are three forms of salt that help shape the water softeners. Evaporated salts, or refined salts, are the purest form of salt available. Evaporated salts are some of the finest and purest salts available on the face of the earth. Typically the are crystallized or purified right from brine. Most salts are created in similar factories that your generic table salt is created in, although the overall process is very different. Halite and or rock salts are removed from the earth from mining processes. There are thousands of techniques for mining rock salt although the most common is using brute force to blast away the surrounding areas of salt and then removing the deposits. These large deposits of salt is found around large salt beds and seas or oceans, some beds of seas will eventually evaporate and those are the best type of areas to access salt. After this point they are processed and cleaned to bring the purest form of water softener salt.

There is one main thing that you need to consider when purchasing water softener salts, solubility. The rate at which a product dissolves is is known as solubility, solubility is not the same in all salts. The most important part of a water softener is the salt that you use with it, it will greatly effect the outcome of your water use. Evaporated water softener salt will be expensive but will provide the best results with just about all water softeners. I’m sure you’ve probably heard from your water softener company how important evaporated salt is. If you have extremely hard water, it’s best to buy the best salts possible to neutralize the effect further. At the end of the day if you can’t afford evaporated salts then you will probably want to check out solar salts. Most of the time solar salts are less expensive then evaporated salts, but don’t perform as well. If neither of those solutions work for you then you’ll want to check out rock salt. Rock salt is the least soluble of the three mentioned salts, overall that means that your water softener will need to work much harder and produce a lot less results.

Let the figures speak for themselves, you will want to test your own water hardness to determine the type of water softener salt that you need. The minerals in which are found in your water will decide what type of salt you should purchase. The more mineral content, minerals like magnesium and calcium, as well as other minerals, are what determine the overall stature of your water supply. Hard water is something that you don’t and won’t need to deal with, from faulty plumbing to poor health. Buy the best for you and your family and get the best salt available.
