You’ve gotta think about a lot of things when considering what to bring for your new college year. If you are a student starting your first years at college then its important to understand what you need to become successful while at school. Boxed and single items are those items that absolutely must be shipped in boxes and cannot be transported efficiently on the planes carry on luggage. Usually these are things that have sentimental value, like pictures, art, family portraits, etc. Most of the time these are the types of things that make you comfortable with your new dorm room. Boxed items are the things that can really begin to add up and get expensive, that’s why you need to look at a big shipping company instead of a specialized transport company. Furniture is something that most people want to ship, or find a way to bring to college. This is an unrealistic request to ship to college as the actual cost for shipping typically outweighs the actual cost of the furniture itself. Don’t get caught up in the idea that you won’t be able to replace that nightstand, or that things may not match, this is college after all. I’d say buy furniture used, and off of Craigslist if possible. Don’t get caught up in buying the best furniture you can, learn how to bargain and pick up some cheap furniture that will last you the few years that you will be at school. I’d recommend buying furniture that you have all intentions of getting destroyed in the next few years. College is a place to have fun, and not stress out about furniture.
Once you’ve gotten quotes from multiple shipping companies, atleast three, ask about special discounts for student shipping. By taking the proper measures to get quotes you could save yourself as much as five hundred dollars on shipping expenses.
