You’ve gotta understand the main things to bring to your new school or college. If you want to save money, and time then it is necessary to understand justĀ what you must bring to be successful at a school. Most things you will be able to purchase at your college town, while at the same time there are somethings that you just can’t leave home without.
Most of the time there’s really only three categories of things that you must bring to your school. The first categorize is the excessive baggage that you will take on the plane, airlines are now charging for extra baggage so consider this when you are packing your stuff for the day of the flight Most planes now charge $50 for any additional bags beyond the single carry on and the single check in bag that you are allowed. Be sure to understand this added expense before you actually begin taking extra baggage with you. Reduce costs by packing your check in bags to the maximum weight, which is typically 50 lbs. If you are getting moved into college by your loved ones or family, be sure to make the most of their luggage as well.
The second main category of items that you will be bringing with you are those items that considered boxed items. Most of the time these are things like books, frames, pictures, and maybe art. Usually these are the type of things that make your room memorable and unique from the others. Boxed items are those things that must be shipped either via Fedex or a specialized shipping company. Pricing will fluctuate so be sure to get quotes from many different companies before selecting whichever one you end up choosing.
One of the most unnecessary things that people will try and ship to college is their furniture. A naturally unrealistic expectation because the cost to ship furniture itself will greatly outweigh what the piece of furniture is actually worth in the first place. Furniture can typically cost more than the item itself to ship to school, therefore you will either need to buy new furniture when you get to school, or find a solution to buy used furniture. I’d say buy furniture used, and off of Craigslist if possible. Don’t get caught up in buying the best furniture you can, learn how to bargain and pick up some cheap furniture that will last you the few years that you will be at school. Buy durable furniture that may not necessarily look great students shipping, but that will last the time that you are at college. College is a place to have fun, and not stress out about furniture.
Before you end up determining which shipping company you will be using be sure to take a look at the available companies on the market. By spending the proper amount of time you could end up saving yourself an average of $300 on shipping.
