A phlebotomy certification is one of the most important accomplishments a person can earn because this can be used in moving up the career ladder and a stepping stone in opening up one’s career horizons especially in the medical field. To earn income, several individuals work as phlebotomist even if they are still finishing school for other medical related fields because this certification is very easy to acquire and can be taken in any State in the country. A standard process is followed by persons who are interested to receive the certification which requires any one to apply for a program that takes about five months to complete and exceeds more than classroom meet ups or lectures. Students will practice extracting blood and along with this they are required for a two week clinical training once in the program, a student will not only join lecture classes but also laboratory workshops. The student will be exposed to work in a doctor’s clinic, nursing home, hospital, or a lab for forty hours each week, on this clinical exposure students will be required to perform a certain number of successful blood extractions with only one rotation required. A student will get a certification for the course attended but this does not mean that one is already a certified phlebotomist because a certification test will still be taken, after completing all classroom, laboratory, and clinical hours with a passing rate or better. Once the phlebotomy certification test is passed, you will be given a card indicating your name and a statement that you are a certified phlebotomist which will be needed when applying for work as part of your credentials. In order to get updated of the trends in the field of phlebotomy which is required by most states, there will be continuing courses to attend even after passing the certification.
